A unique capacity building programme, to empower communities to facilitate Participatory Learning and Action monthly meetings designed, piloted, tested, evaluated for impact on newborn, infant, maternal mortality, post natal depression an among children directly implemented in more than 2000 villages by Ekjut (implemented through Government systems and development organizations receiving core support from Ekjut) is now touching the lives of mothers and babies in 100,000 villages of India. At the peak of the programme 2 million women from some of the most marginalised communities went through this empowering sessions in 4 phases (Identifying problems, discussing causes and effects, implementing feasible solutions and evaluating together) for saving lives and building healthier communities.
Action Against Malnutrition (AAM) is a multi-strategy intervention with the aim to improve nutritional outcomes of children less than three years of age. This initiative has a component of participatory learning and action (PLA) meeting cycle with women’s group and home visit counseling together with running of crèches for children under three years of age.
Community Action Research to Improve Nutrition and Growth (CARING) is initiative that aims to develop and evaluate a community-based intervention to improve nutrition and growth in the first 1000 days of life. The intervention involved empowerment and counselling of mothers for healthy child rearing
Intervention comprising participatory adolescent groups, youth leadership training and livelihood promotion,delivered by a community youth team, for mental well-being, and improve school enrolment and dietary diversity among adolescent girls.
Ekjut has piloted,applied, refined,scaled up a unique community capacity building process called participatory learning and action (PLA) for women's empowerment.
A robust surveillance system for measuring neonatal,infant,maternal mortality, status of undernutrition among mothers and children, adolescents , women,etc. Using sate of the art measurement devices and techniques.
Publishing and sharing findings of our evidence based work(resulting from combining empowerment + monitoring) for scale up. This is research into policies and practice.

Ekjut will work in the districts in India for the improvement of maternal, newborn, child health and nutrition of partnering underserved,marginalised communities, through their empowerment, community based interventions and influence good governance for improving access and quality of services. This will be done through collaborating with leading agencies for building our research capacities to strengthen evidence base, dissemination of findings, engagement with government and networks and supporting scaling up of effective interventions.
